Info on the Blog Feature and MILK-00

Welcome to the MILK-00 blog. This is a personal project of mine that I have been interested in for quit some time. This is several years in the making and today you have found it! Just a bit about me and this blog. This page is different than the others. This page is hard coded in place and not generated from the database. As the feature post at the top and taking a different space in the layout I decided to do it this way. Blogs can be set up in any number of ways. I liked this design and loved this idea. All the other pages content are pulled from the database and the images are in a AWS S3 bucket. Articles are managed from the admin dashboard. Now that I have explained how this article is different from the others, let's move on.
I am a web developer and build apps for the web. I have always been interested in the web and design. Started with desktop publishing when the internet was new and shinny. It has always been a hobby for me and I never pushed to make a living out of it. Then in 2019 I decided to dive into the wonderful world of web development head first. Well that was not where I started. I started with my computer career and received several certification through them. I fell in love with Linux while going through certifications. I have always been good with my hands and just understood how things went. Computers and networks, much like cars, just makes sense to me. If I was honest though, I really wanted to feed my artistic side.
From there I dove into Lambda School and got through the first half which was web development. Learning things like React and Node was a challenge. I was excited at how things were going and impressed with myself. Keeping up was a huge challenge on it's own, however, due to some family issues I was not able to complete the software engineering half. I am frustrated over it but would not give the time I spent with my father back for anything. Gone but not forgotten, love ya pop. It was a trying time in my life but I came out the other side with a deeper respect for my father and my family.
Through my journey I have learned so many thing and continue to push forward today. Learning is a never ending journey and I have been having a ball. This blog is created for a few reasons. One, I use it to help cement the what I have learned. Two, you can use it to learn a few things. I brings a smile to my face to think of those on the same journey I am, learning from the work I have put into this.
I have built various versions of this app in several languages. Never to this extent though. I found Rails at the beginning of this year, 2024. In January I dove into Ruby with code academy. In February is when I began to play with Rails. I have to say I have truly enjoyed this journey so far. Rails and the Ruby language are magical. This project is another portfolio project that aims to wrap all my best project concepts in one nice package. I want my own little place on the internet.
This article is intended to be a fixed feature for the blog. It will be updated now and then as I remember things to add. It is, very much, a work in progress. It is intended to give information about me, the site, and the project. Today I have this project live on Heroku. I have to say I am very proud of it. I have a lot of things to learn but I am a very determined person. Stay, enjoy, learn a thing and tell a friend.
